	Simon’s mother-in-law is sick. Her friends, who also happen to be the friends of Jesus, tell him about her. Jesus, without hesitation, grasps her hand and cures her. She in turn gets up and waits on them. When there is somebody sick whom you know and care about, you naturally want to do something. Besides providing comfort, support and friendship, you want to provide spiritual help. As a follower and friend of Jesus you ask for his help and pray for the sick person. You bring that person to Jesus in prayer; confident he will hear the prayer made on behalf of the sick person. In a very real way when you ask Jesus to help a sick person, you repeat/relive the Gospel of today. Christ did not analyze the type of sickness, or give an explanation of what caused it, or even attempt to explain why Simon’s mother-in-law was sick. Christ does not explain why people suffer. Jesus knew he couldn’t possibly heal all the illness in the world. No matter how many people gathered ‘at the door’ there would always be more suffering people, like Job who longed for his healing touch. Like Job in our first reading this Sunday, people can question why they suffer and seek an explanation and never find an answer. Job never did get a satisfactory answer, but he never wavered in his belief in the goodness of God. Sometimes when there is sickness, or suffering, all that we can do is cry. Maybe there is anger and resentment towards God. I feel it is better to rant and rave at God, to get angry, than walk away from him. In the midst of those
