If
two of you agree on earth about anything
for which they are to pray, it shall be
granted to them by my heavenly
Father.

Matthew 18:19
|
|
|
|
|
The doorbell rang, and the lady
of the house discovered a
workman, complete with tool
chest, on the front
porch.
Madam,
he announced, Im the
piano tuner. The lady
exclaimed, Why, I
didnt send for a piano
tuner. The man replied,
I know, but your neighbors
did.
It
would appear that the whole
neighborhood had to come together
and tell the woman in a not too
subtle way that she and her piano
were off key.
This
past weekend the weather service
was giving advice about the
approaching hurricane
Gustav. Federal and
local emergency plans were put
into action for the havoc that
would ensure from the rain the
winds and the expected floods.
People were evacuated, homes and
businesses were boarded up,
shelters were created, and the
National Guard was put on alert.
People were warned in advance of
the coming danger. And they
prayed the levies would hold.
Officials from the weather
service gave warning and told
people to take appropriate
action.
Sometimes
there is a storm brewing in a
persons life and they might
not be aware of it. But others
are. Did you ever have the
occasion to say or hear someone
say about a friend who was in
trouble, Oh, Im not
surprised. I could see it
coming. And why wasnt
something said or done about it?
It is never easy to warn others
that they might trip and fall but
we have a responsibility to
them.
For
example, people of all ages slip
away from Church. They become
irregular in going to mass. Soon
they go only at Christmas and
Easter, and then not at all. Can
it be that there is no one to
gently invite them to stay with
the Church? Is there no one to
encourage them to continue in the
practice of their faith? If we
dont feel a loss at their
leaving maybe our faith needs a
tune-up.
