All
you who are thirsty, come to the
water!
|
|
|
|
Isaiah 55:1a
|
|
|
|
|
A little boy called at the house
of a retired gentleman and
offered some picture postcards
for sale at 10 cents
each.
What
are you going to do with the
money? he asked the
boy.
Im
raising one million dollars for
the earthquake relief, he
answered gravely.
The
child was so tiny and the sum of
money so large that the gentleman
laughed.
One
million dollars? He said.
Do you expect to raise it
all by
yourself?
No,
sir he replied solemnly.
Theres another little
boy helping
me.
The
words in todays gospel
remind us of the words for the
consecration of the Eucharistic
bread and wine: He took bread,
looked up to heaven, blessed,
broke and gave it to them. The
Eucharist, as the mystery,
provides the setting and attitude
for responding to God in our
trials and temptations, in our
thirst and hunger. In the
Eucharist we are not alone but
united with the entire church. In
the Eucharist we ask for
forgiveness and we forgive others
their offenses against us. Most
of all, in the Eucharist we
confess our faith that it is the
Lord Jesus who cares for us each
moment of our daily
life.
The
Eucharist does not absolve us for
doing nothing. Jesus, in this
episode told them give them
some food yourselves. The
Eucharist generates
responsibility for others. We are
family when we celebrate and not
the private individuals gathered
in the same church building. We
are family and caregivers,
comforters and challengers of the
world we live in. When one member
is hurting all are hurting. Blood
poured out is not just for me
alone it is blood poured out for
all.
I
have to put in my 10cents worth
and together with all the others
we can make a tremendous
difference.

HELP
RECYCLE:
The St. Vincent de Paul Society has
started a program to recycle small
appliances; stereos, speakers, computers,
monitors, printers, TVs DVDs
VCRs, microwaves, small kitchen
appliances, etc., whether they are working
or not. Do something good for the
environment and save yourself the cost of
paying dumping fees. Items can be brought
to stores conveniently located in Daly
City, SSF, San Mateo, Redwood City, or
call 871-6844 for pick-up. All proceeds
from the recycling program benefit the
needy in San Mateo County.
Visitors
to the Homebound:
Are you
taking the Sacrament to either the
homebound nursing homes? Would you like to
be a part of this important ministry? Do
you know of someone who is homebound and
would like to receive the Sacrament
regularly?
Please plan to attend a meeting on
Wednesday, August 6 at 10 am in the
convent.
The St.
Vincent de Paul
Society
thanks all of our parishioners for their
generous response to our requests for
paper grocery bags for our food
distributions. We now have a great supply
of bags!
Thank you for helping us help the needy.
Are you interested in learning more about
the beliefs and practices of the Catholic
Church? Are you baptized but never
received First Communion? Never were
Confirmed? If you answered yes to any of
the above questions, our RCIA process can
be of help to you. RCIA stands for Rite of
Christian Initiation Adults. It is a
process designed to meet the needs of
adults who are considering joining the
Church or who wish to receive the
sacraments of Initiation ( Baptism,
Eucharist, Confirmation). For more
information regarding our Inquiry
Sessions, call the rectory at 697-4730.
Classes begin in September.
