Those who are just must be kind.

— Wisdom 12:19

This man buys a pet parrot and brings him home. But the parrot starts cursing him and using terrible language, so finally the man picks up the parrot and throws him into the freezer to teach him a lesson.

He hears the parrot cursing and squawking in there for a while, and then all of a sudden the parrot is quiet. The man opens the door, and the parrot walks out, looks up at him, and says, “I apologize for offending you, and I humbly ask for your forgiveness.” The man says, “Well, thank you, I forgive you.” And the parrot says, “If you don’t mind my asking, what did the chickens do?”

The gospel this weekend gives us an insight into the life of God. Without Jesus we would have a difficult time seeing the forgiving side of God. Our God is always concerned with the conversion of people and never with their destruction. No one is ever written off or considered beyond redemption. As Mother Teresa said, “God does not make rubbish”.

Jesus is not the one to throw the first stone or point an accusing finger. He cares for everybody, but especially those chocked by sin. He is the one who will leave the ninetynine and go after the one that has gone astray. The Pharisees were highly critical of Jesus choosing to break bread and share the company of people of questionable character. Yet he always sought them out and delighted in their company.

The weeds grow not only in our neighbor’s garden for all of us to see, they grow in our back yard. The good news is that it is never too late to do some weeding in our own garden. Weeds can never become wheat, but by the power of God a sinner can become a saint. Let us all be thankful that on the last day we will be judged by a compassionate God and not by one another.

From the Office of Religious Education and Youth Ministry

We are looking for volunteers to join our team of catechists in the rewarding ministry of working with the children in our parish. If you have been thinking of becoming more involved in a church ministry--please consider volunteering in our Religious Education Program. Catechists are needed for the following grade levels--Kindergarten, First and Second. Our classes are held on Tuesday afternoon's from 3:45-5:00p.m. and will begin in September. Training sessions are available as well as materials that explain the textbooks as well as lesson plans.

The St. Dunstan School of Religious Education is an important part of the St. Dunstan Parish community. We are dedicated in providing our students with a desire to share in the adventure of faith, learning, liturgy and life. Our programs provide faith formation for children to grow in love, knowledge, appreciation and desire to become active members of the Catholic Church.

It is our hope that you will give consideration to the idea of becoming one of our volunteers and share with us your time, talent and your prayers. For more information, please contact the Director of Religious Education--Sheree Leone at (650) 697-7451 or stdunstanccd@att.net.
