God
so loved the world that he gave his only
Son.
|
|
|
|
John 3:16a
|
|
|
|
|
A man was praying to God. He
said, God?
God responded,
Yes?
And the guy said, Can I ask
you a question?
Go right ahead God
said.
God, what is a million
years to you?
God said, A million years
is only a second.
The man thought and then asked,
God, what is a million
dollars worth to you?
God said, A million dollars
to me is a penny.
So the man said, God, can I
have a penny?
And God said,
Sure!
..Just a
second.
We
think small most of the time. And
it is never more obvious than
when we are thinking about God.
We imagine God to be like someone
we already know. We make God into
a Policeman, or God the Sweet Old
Guy with a long beard, or God the
Absentee Landlord, and so on. The
feast of the Trinity is aimed at
getting our image
straight.
God
is a relationship, a community of
Father, Son and Spirit. God is
we and not
I. The God revealed
to us does not do
love; God is love.
We
are surrounded and enfolded in
this relationship. In this
mystery we live and move
and have our being. When we
come to church we usually make
the sign of the cross and pray
the words that accompany this
holy action, In the name of
the Father and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit. This
simple prayer reminds us that
there are three persons in God.
It also calls to mind that when
we first entered the Church we
were baptized in the same Holy
Trinity. We belong to the family
of God; we are members of His
household, co-heirs with Christ,
anointed with the Holy Spirit. We
live in the mystery of
Trinity.
I
bind unto myself the name,
The strong name of the
Trinity:
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in
Three;
Of whom all nature hath
creation,
Eternal father, Spirit, Word;
Praise to the Lord of my
salvation-
Salvation is of Christ the Lord!
Amen.
(Prayer of St.
Patrick)

HOW DID
YOU HEAR THE GOOD NEWS
TODAY?
Television,
radio, newspapers, magazines, the Internet
all are places people go to get news
and entertainment. But what do we get
exactly, when we turn on the
tube or log on to the Internet? As a
result of your support of the Catholic
Communications Campaign, Catholics and all
media consumers have increased
opportunities to find Gospel-grounded
messages and resources to strengthen their
families and their faith. Please
contribute generously to CCC in
todays second collection. Half of
all donations received will remain in our
archdiocese to fund local Catholic
communication efforts. Thank you for your
generous response.
