Making decisions in the dark can lead to
some regrettable consequences. Back in the
days before electricity, a tightfisted old
farmer was taking his hired man to task
for carrying a lighted lantern when he
went to call on his best girl. "Why," he
exclaimed, "when I went a-courtin' I never
carried one of them things. I always went
in the dark." "Yes," the hired man said
wryly," and look what you
got!"
Have
you ever played the game of choice? It is
a game in which you have to make a choice
and both options are not very pleasant.
For example, you are going to have major
brain surgery, and the doctor tells you
that some nerves have to be cut, and you
will certainly be left permanently either
blind or deaf after the operation, but you
have the choice. Would you rather lose
your ability to hear, or your ability to
see? You have to choose: would you rather
be deaf, or blind?
In
today's reading, the man born blind
receives his physical sight, but at a
deeper level he also receives spiritual
sight; whereas the Pharisees who thought
they had spiritual sight become
increasingly spiritually
blind.
I
once was lost but now I'm found / Was
blind but now I see, says the hymn
Amazing Grace. Sometimes I think there is
an air of superiority about this; it seems
rather too presumptuous. Am I so sure
there is no darkness still in me? In
reality we see and dont see. I
believe; help my unbelief! cried the
father of the child in Mark 9:24. Baptism
is the beginning of Gods bringing us
all into a Light by which we can see who
we really are. Christ is our light. He has
come courting us. He sees us and he wants
us to see Him.
This week we pray for the candidates
for the Sacrament of Confirmation that
their recent retreat renewed in them the
gifts of the Holy Spirit. We pray that the
Holy Spirit will renew all our lives,
strengthen our relationship with God, and
urge us onward in our faith journeys.
Come
join us for a morning of
reflection and prayer
in preparation for Easter.
Saturday March 8th
Fr Brendan Carr C.S.Sp
will facilitate a morning of
prayer and reflection
from 9:00 am to 1:00pm
in the church.
All are
welcome.

LENTEN
REGULATIONS
Everyone
14 years of age and older is bound to
abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, the
Fridays of Lent and Good
Friday.
Everyone
18 years of age and older but under the
age of 60 is also bound to fast Ash
Wednesday and Good Friday.
On
these two days , the law of fast allows
only one full meal a day, but does not
prohibit taking some food during the day,
so long as this does not constitute
another full meal. Drinking liquids during
the day is permitted.
When
health or ability to work would be
seriously affected, the law does not
oblige. In doubt concerning fast or
abstinence, a priest assigned to pastoral
ministry or confessor should be consulted.
In the spirit of penance, the faithful
should not lightly excuse themselves from
this obligation.
Parishioners
are encouraged to receive the Sacrament of
Reconciliation during Lent, and to attend
Morning Prayer at 7:15 am, and one of the
three daily Masses at 6:30 am, 8:00 am and
5:10 pm.
Stations
of the Cross are held Fridays at 2:15 pm
& 7 pm.
