The story of the Epiphany captures the
imagination with its rich mixture of
mystery and intrigue. The story of the
magi is so colorful we may overlook its
significance and fail to see its deeper
meaning. The wise men represent all of us.
This feast celebrates a journey we all
make. It is a journey we begin when we
catch a glimpse of the star Jesus
Christ and offer him our
allegiance, and follow him through all the
ups and downs of like.
The
early Church had two pivotal seasons of
the year, Epiphany and Easter. These two
seasons celebrate the beginning and end of
the life of Jesus. Both seasons have the
powerful symbol of light. These were the
times of baptism extending the light to
new believers. It is important to see and
understand how the light is taken from its
place of beginning and dispersed into the
world. It is strangers, outsiders and wise
people who catch sight of the star. They
come searching, wanting to offer gifts and
homage, and to align themselves to the
newborn king.
They
stumble into Herods stronghold, a
place of intrigue and plots, a place of
selfishness, where people are concerned
about their own status in the world. When
they leave Herods palace, the star
appears again as if it had been waiting
for them to pass through the bright lights
of evil, violence and
deception.
They
find this newborn king and prostrate
themselves before him. They offer their
gifts and give him their hearts. They in
turn are given gifts and are changed. They
cannot retrace their paths; there is no
going back to old ways. They find a new
way home another way to live,
another way to belong, another way to show
forth the glory of God.

St.
Dunstan Parish Community
A Huge Thank You

Your generosity was overwhelming! Because
of your generous support, the T.E.R.E.S.A.

of household essentials and gift
certificates to children and adults who
desperately needed them this Christmas.
Your contributions were delivered to both
St. Josephs Village in San Francisco
and St. Vincent de Paul Society of San
Mateo the week before Christmas and were
greatly appreciated. In addition, we were
able to contribute much needed Safeway
gifts cards to SVdPs Catherine
