In this beautiful passage from Lukes
Gospel we have a meeting with a woman who
was a sinner, Simon a Pharisee who treated
her as a sinner and Jesus who saw a person
she could become. Simon dismissed her, he
no sympathy for her. Yet like a lot of
other men in her life he was exploiting
her also. Her presence was an opportunity
to trip Jesus up. Jesus treated her
gently. He did not call her names or even
condemn her. He didnt even show his
disapproval of her lifestyle. He simply
addressed her and said, Your sins
are forgiven.
That is
the way God our Father sees us. It is
quite different from how we see others. We
can be so quick to see the faults in
others, their mistakes their wrongdoings
and label them as no good as
sinners and dismiss them. We
are more than our sins. Sin does not
express who we are. Sin does not sum up
our true identity. We are children of God,
called by Christ in baptism and we belong
to him. He sees our sins but also our
goodness and our potential. He continues
to have faith in us, to believe in us.
Mercy and forgiveness are his gifts to us
to grow into his likeness.
He
looks gently at us, aware of our
brokenness, our pain and disgrace. He
embraces us, attends to our hurts and
never once calls us names. We are his
brothers and sisters and Jesus has no
intention of losing us.
Like
the woman in the gospel we can come into
His presence with our shame and disgrace.
We can come into his presence with the
eyes of our neighbors throwing daggers of
condemnation at us and he gently forgives
and send us, Your faith has saved
you; go in peace.

Our
Blessed Mother is Inviting You to Join the
Legion of Mary
Our
Mother, the Virgin Mary and the Legion of
Mary are inviting you to join us and
become a Legionary. The object of the
Legion of Mary is the glory of God through
the holiness of its members developed by
prayer and active cooperation in
Marys and the Churchs work.
The Legion of Mary is the largest
apostolic organization of lay people in
the Catholic Church with well over 3
million active members. It was founded in
Dublin, Ireland on September 7, 1921. It
is a lay Catholic organization whose
members are giving service to the Church
on a voluntary basis in almost every
country. The Legion sees as its priority
the spiritual and social welfare of each
individual. The members participate in the
life of the parish through visitation of
families, the sick, both in their homes
and in hospitals through collaboration in
every apostolic and missionary undertaking
sponsored by the parish. The Legion of
Mary is open to all Catholics who
faithfully practice their religion and are
animated to fulfill their role in the
Catholic Churchs apostolic mission
by performance of substantial work of
ministry as needed by its local parishes.
If you
are interested in becoming a member, you
may contact Sister Norma Evans at
650-872-3521 (after office hours) or 650
