We are getting closer to Christmas day.
This Sunday we light the pink candle on
our Advent wreath. It is traditionally
known as Gaudete Sunday.
(Gaudete meaning
Rejoice in Latin). It sets the
tone of joyful expectation for the
Lords birth and Second Coming. For
many of us there is joy in our hearts as
we wait expectantly to celebrate this
foundational event of our Christian lives:
the incarnation. For others there is
heightened anxiety as the countdown begins
to complete shopping lists, to sort out
the number of cards to be mailed, and to
consider the presents to be bought and
wrapped.
This is
the season of gift giving and it confronts
us with the greatest challenge of all: to
look past the goodies that the internet
and shopping centers put in front of us.
We are called to see beyond the tinsel and
lights and see the true Light that is
coming into our world.
In the
Gospel of this Sunday the crowds asked
John the Baptist, What must we
do? his preaching has created a
sense of urgency and expectation and the
people want to know what they should do.
In essence John says, Whoever you
are, and whatever it is that you do, do it
with all your heart. If you are a soldier,
protect people. If you are a leader, take
care of people and not just your own
self-interests. If you have more than you
need, share.
Each of
us plays a variety of roles: citizen,
worker, professional, laity, clergy,
religious, mother, father, sister and so
on. Our challenge is to be the good
news and to enable others to share
the good news of a God who is near and
cares for each and very person.
The
T.E.R.E.S.A. Committee
of
the St. Dunstans Womens Club
will be meeting on Monday, December 18 at
7 pm in the St. Dunstan School Library.
All ladies of the parish are most welcome
to attend.

one of our parishioners has been admitted,
so it is up to their family members to let
us know. Thanks for your help!
