The call of John the Baptist to repentance
is an urgent invitation for us to prepare
a way for the Lord, to prepare ourselves
for Christ to come anew into our hearts.
When you reflect on it, that is what
Advent is all about. To celebrate
Christmas means renewing our lives by
acknowledging our need of Christ. This
same Christ, who came once in Bethlehem,
is constantly calling us to higher things.
Christ our Savior wants to make his home
in us. As mature adults we have the
freedom to accept or ignore his
invitation. As mature Catholic adults we
have the responsibility to make present
the values of Christ wherever we go. This
is not easy or possible unless we are
making a constant effort to renew our
lives. Christ does not come once a year to
make us feel happy. He calls us everyday
to be Christian. To settle for less is to
treat Christ as if he were a passing guest
and not a forceful presence influencing
our lives.
Come
join us on December 19 at 7:00 pm as we
reflect on our relationship with Christ,
and deepen that relationship through
prayer and repentance. His power is at
work in our lives, when we make peace with
those we have hurt, when relationships we
fractured are healed and when Christ is
recognized in the poor we once ignored.
John the Baptists call is loud and
clear, Prepare the way of the
Lord He is not talking about a new
federal project with lots of explosives
and earthmovers. He is talking about the
parts inside us that need changing. He is
talking of the attitudes we have that get
in the way of the Lord coming to heal and
renew us. We have heard his call and
received the invitation with an urgent
RSVP attached to respond before he comes
again.
