Saint Dunstan Catholic Church
27th Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 8, 2006

Let the children come to me;
do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

— Mark 10:14

Recently, in preparation for Archbishop Niederauer’s visit, there was a meeting of some of the parish organizations in the rectory. It is truly amazing the number of people so committed to the well being of our parish and the building up of the kingdom of God. Truthfully you give of your time, talent and treasure. One way or another we are all called to be bearers of the Good News.

At baptism we were called to be witness to the gospel and to make the Church a living presence of Christ in our community. All of us have something to give to our parish community to make it grow and mature in Christ. I would ask you to reflect during this week how best you can be more actively involved in our parish. There are many organizations and activities that you can become in involved in. My own special plea is for help in the Confirmation Program. We urgently need people to share and hand on the faith to those in our catechetical formation program.

As I celebrate the Eucharist on Sunday or during the week I am always encouraged and uplifted by your presence. By your attendance at Mass and the reverence with which you attend the Eucharist you show your love for the Lord. Your faith builds up my faith, your dedication deepens my commitment, your presence gives me courage. St Dunstan’s is truly a remarkable faith filled parish.

Day by day all of us live the Gospel and deepen our faith, hope and love. As we celebrate Mission/Stewardship Sunday next weekend, we celebrate who we are. We celebrate the diversity of the Holy Spirit active in our parish. I pray that we may draw closer to Christ and be his witnesses in our community; that we may share the burdens of others and always be attentive to the voice of the Holy Spirit.
