Saint Dunstan Catholic Church
26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 1, 2006

The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul; the decree of the LORD is trustworthy, giving wisdom to the simple.

— Psalm 19:8

In two weeks time, on Sunday October 15, Archbishop Niederauer will celebrate the 10:00 am mass with us. It will be his first time to St Dunstan Parish. It has been his wish to visit all the parishes in the Archdiocese and become familiar with his flock. We are fortunate that he is able to come to us on this Sunday.

At the end of mass the Archbishop will unveil a plaque to St Dunstan. It will give a brief outline of the life of St. Dunstan of Canterbury. It is amazing the number of times I’ve been asked by visitors “Who was St Dunstan?” It will be attached to the outside wall of the Church, and will be seen by all who pass by. This bronze plaque is tastefully done and is a gift from a parishioner.

On this happy and historical occasion we will have our ‘Mission/Stewardship’ Sunday. We will highlight various activities in our parish life. Different parish organizations will have a display and information about their activities in the Parish Center. It is truly wonderful to see all the different active organizations we have in St. Dunstan’s. We have the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Choir, Prayer groups, Men’s Club and Women’s Club and many more. In total there are twenty parish organizations. I’m sure there is one to suit everyone! (If not, why not meet with me to form a group to cater for a real need in our parish?) Each organization is always looking for new members, so come along and see what they are all about.

Let us make Archbishop’s visit truly memorable and show the beauty of St. Dunstan’s Parish; let us show the Archbishop the parish we love.

As Archbishop will be celebrating mass, unveiling the plaque and visiting our Parish Organizations in the Parish Center, there will be no 11:30 mass on October 15.
